This is a fun and interactive music class for a small group of learners who are seven to eight years old. Through coloring, seeing pictures, listening, and games, we will have a great time learning. We can improve and gain knowledge in lots of fun ways when we hear great music. Okay, let's get technical! This series of classes is structured like a typical school class, where your learner will gain musical knowledge and skills through participation. Learners will listen to songs that...
Students will be able to identify many instruments in the string and percussion families by sight and sound at the end of eight weeks. Students will also be familiar with the iconic pieces of music listed under "Class Experience." Students will experience instruments in a dynamic setting and will be exposed to music to form a knowledge base and to develop their critical thinking and formation of opinions. Exposure to enduring, iconic pieces of music is crucial to all learners in order to develop a knowledge base. Learners will express opinions about what they hear. Students will be prompted to use composers' names, information, and correct terms. These terms are taught in the other course on music and literacy, which combine with this course to complete the required knowledge and skill learning for second grade. This is also crucial to future music analysis and formation of preferences and development of critical thinking in music. Students who have a broad knowledge base have more information to use when accessing higher-order functions of the brain. This class is a crucial piece of the big picture in terms of basic knowledge, history, and learning in second grade. This class fulfills the listening and music appreciation component of a second grader's music learning experience.
I am a certified music teacher. I am certified to teach all grades. I have experience teaching music and literacy to second graders.
Students can practice identifying instruments learned by reviewing the class slides. Learners can also listen to the music at home if they wish to review it and be more ready to recognize it by name. A document created by the teacher will list the music terms and definitions as well as short composer biographies. The document will grow each week. Parents and students will be able to access this document in the Outschool classroom.
Learners will need to print the listening maps each week before class. Coloring materials will be needed, as well.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learner progress will be assessed by rubric. The rubric will be available before the course, and each completed student rubric will be sent privately through Outschool communications to parents or guardians. Parents or guardians will then have an idea of what their learner needs to work on to improve and grow. Students will receive a certificate of completion for their portfolio.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
