Class Experience

Students will be able to identify guitar, piano, trumpet, flute, violin, and drum by sight and sound at the end of eight weeks.  Students will also be familiar with the iconic pieces of music listed under "Class Experience."  Students will experience instruments in a dynamic setting and will be exposed to music to form a knowledge base and to develop their critical thinking and formation of opinions.  Exposure to enduring, iconic pieces of music is crucial to all learners in order to develop a knowledge base.  Learners will express opinions about what they hear.  This is also crucial to future music analysis and formation of preferences and development of critical thinking in music.  Students who have a broad knowledge base have more information to use when accessing higher-order functions of the brain.  This class is a crucial piece of the big picture in terms of knowledge and learning in Kindergarten.  This class fulfills the listening and music appreciation component of a kindergartener's music learning experience.
I am a certified music teacher.  I am certified to teach all grades.  I have experience teaching music and literacy to kindergarteners.
Students can practice identifying instruments learned by reviewing the class slides.  Learners can also listen to the music at home if they wish to review it and be more ready to recognize it by name.
Learners will need to print the coloring page or pages each week before class. If desired, other coloring pages on the weekly subject material may be added or substituted for those provided by the teacher.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learner progress will be assessed by rubric.  The rubric will be available before the class, and each completed student rubric will be sent privately through Outschool communications to parents or guardians.  Parents or guardians will then have an idea of what their learner needs to work on to improve and grow.
Students will receive a certificate of completion for their portfolio.
30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
