Lionheart Creative Writing: Maps World Building Story Settings w/Funtastic Phil!
In this 4-week class, we build a world for our fictional character(s) by making our own fantasy map and designing our own story setting.

Description
Class Experience
1) Students will learn and identify the qualities of a great fantasy world. 2) Students will think critically and analytically about various story settings and how to improve them for maximum dramatic impact. 3) Students will practice their world building skills and demonstrate versatility, originality, and creativity in the process. 4) Students will complete the Exclusive Lionheart World Building Chart, Lionheart World Building Drawing/Coloring, and Lionheart Setting Description for their final character by the end of the 4-week class. 5) Students will have fun in class!
ABOUT ME * I am currently working on my own independently produced children's picture book as both author and art director. It will be coming available in 2022! :-) *Teacher of the Year *University of Oxford Graduate - alumni/professors include Lewis Carroll, JRR Tolkien, CS Lewis, Percy Shelley, Oscar Wilde, Dorothy Sayers, Dr. Seuss, Wilbert Awdry (Thomas The Tank Engine), and Philip Pullman (His Dark Materials). *Member of the Oxford University Harry Potter Society, the Oxford University J.R.R. Tolkien Society, and the Oxford University C.S. Lewis Society. *Attended Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter Tea Party at Christ Church College, regularly supped in the "Harry Potter Dining Hall," and went to Oxford University's Harry Potter Ball; Visited Roald Dahl's Museum & Story Center (Great Missenden), Peter Pan's Kensington Gardens in London, Pooh Corner (Hartsfield, UK), the Hundred Acre Wood and Poohsticks Bridge in the Ashdown Forest, and the Charles Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, CA. *University of Edinburgh Graduate - home of novelist Robert Louis Stevenson (Treasure Island), Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes), James Barrie (Peter Pan), Walter Scott (Ivanhoe), Athlete Eric Liddell (Chariots of Fire), and Oliver Goldsmith (The Vicar of Wakefield). *Studied Creative Writing at Cambridge University (UK) *Studied Children's Literature at King's College London *Children's Book Writing Certificate (UC San Diego Extension) *Currently Under Development: Independent Book Published Children's Book *During my 20+ years of teaching, I have worked with thousands of students from every age and demographic group. I am very likable! Every year students tell me over and over again that I am one of their favorite teachers! *I have taught sold-out after-school and summer school classes and summer camps for kids.
If time runs out, students will be able to complete their projects after class.
*Pencils, pens, colored pencils, colored pens/markers, and/or crayons *Scissors and glue for some craft activities (parent guidance required) when necessary *A fun and educational weekly WORLD BUILDING CHART, MAP, AND/OR LEARNING ACTIVITY will be sent 24 hours in advance. Please print the weekly pages(s) in advance and bring them to class (please do not complete them in advance)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.

This is a kids friendly safe place. Everything is G-rated. No bad language. No inappropriate images. Materials for these lessons include: DK Children's Encyclopedia, DK Children's Illustrated Encyclopedia, Maps, Reference Materials, Workbooks, Story Books and other relevant subjects will also be consulted as needed. Illustrations/Websites from the Internet (occasionally; pre-selected; G-Rated) YouTube videos and/or music (occasionally; pre-selected; G-Rated)
