We will have a blast reading & discussing this fascinating novel, and making a lapbook that your child will create to remember important features of the book.

Class experience

US Grade 4 - 6
The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe is a classic novel in the Chronicles of Narnia series by beloved author, C.S. Lewis.
Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy are 4 siblings who go on an amazing adventure that lasts 7 books. It’s rare a person isn’t familiar with these stories, whether they’ve read them or just heard of them. The Chronicles of Narnia is a classic story, and almost everyone loves to read it! It’s also an amazing movie that you will love to see when you finish reading the book.
What is this novel about? When the four siblings step through a wardrobe, something magical happens. They enter a magical land called Narnia. The people of Narnia are experiencing an eternal winter, and are under the cruel rule of the White Witch. They are eagerly awaiting the hope of Aslan’s return. Aslan is a powerful lion that demands awe and honor, and his return promises the end of the witch’s eternal winter and peace.
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was originally the first book in the series, but it is considered the second book now. It’s my favorite of the whole collection, and I think if you only read one – this is it. Read this one :)
I have chosen this novel because I think the themes are perfect for kids and will foster great discussion and thought provoking questions. I love teaching reading and I create a relaxed environment in my classes in which students feel comfortable to share their thoughts and ideas. I also want them to be excited about coming to class, so I work hard to create activities that will keep them engaged while learning important reading comprehension skills.
Homework Offered
Students will need a copy of the novel The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Lion by C.S. Lewis. They will also need a file folder (any color) to create the lapbook. Crayons or markers, a pencil, and scissors are needed for class to create the lapbook too. Upon enrollment you will receive the first week's handouts that should be printed for class. Students are expected to do the assigned readings at home. We will complete the majority of the lapbook during class together. (I may assign a small amount of work at home to finish if needed.) This is a great book for a class literature unit. It is important that the student keep up with the weekly reading so we can complete the class in 8 weeks. This shouldn't be hard because it is a fun novel that keeps the readers attention. I have created class activities I think the students will enjoy too. I will send the handouts out at the beginning of each week.
