Play “Hakuna Matata” on ukulele! Share your joy of ukulele as you play a song with peers. Practice chord changes and brush up on your rhythm skills as we sing and strum at the same time. *Please come with a basic understanding of easy ukulele chords so you can keep up with the group. We will first practice the chords in the song, then play one verse at a time, and finally put the song together. Please tune your ukulele before class! Have the chords and lyrics printed out, displayed on another device, or on the side of your screen so you can reference it as we play.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to play major and minor chords. They will also practice rhythm as we sing and strum at the same time.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello everyone!
I’m Cricket, they/them. I graduated from Randolph College with a B.A. in English, with honors.
I am a homeschool co-op teacher leading small groups of students ages 5-15 in a variety of subjects, including science, math, and English. My latest class is teaching reading to kindergarteners using TPR and synthetic phonics.
For the past decade, I have been part of a nonprofit organization that teaches environmental education programs to school-aged children and community members. I lead after-school programs, field trips, birthday parties, and community programs where in each of these I teach participants about animals, ecology, and environmental awareness. For one summer, I was also garden educator at a local nonprofit summer camp. I designed and implemented weekly garden educational activities for campers aged 5-13.
Here on OutSchool, I teach private weekly ukulele and guitar classes for beginners who would like one-on-one instruction that matches their learning pace. We will learn chords and tableture through covers of fun songs. I offer a wide variety of songs, and will do my best to find songs your students request. Music has been a passion of mine since I was small. I have seven years of classical piano experience, which helped me learn to play other stringed instruments.
My teaching philosophy is to teach how to think, not what to think. My classes are more of a conversation than a lecture. I have an interdisciplinary approach to learning. I do not see class subjects as separate boxes, but rather as connecting with each other.
My classroom environment is relaxed, calm, and patient. And I am supportive of any pronouns your child is comfortable using.
