US Grade 2 - 5
In this dynamic 4-day camp, young artists will explore the essential elements of line, form, and shape through engaging, hands-on activities designed to spark creativity and boost confidence. Each day will focus on one of these fundamental concepts, giving students the opportunity to experiment with different media while honing their artistic skills. Throughout the camp, students will dive into a variety of art techniques and styles. From drawing and sketching to painting abstract art and creating three-dimensional sculptures, each activity will demonstrate how line, form, and shape come together to create stunning works of art. The camp will culminate in an art showcase where students will submit their projects to a virtual art gallery, giving them the chance to admire their classmates' creativity and celebrate their own artistic growth. Every day will begin with an art-related read-aloud to inspire and connect with the theme. For example, when exploring line, we will read Ish by Peter Reynolds and discuss how different types of lines—whether straight, squiggly, or curved—can make art uniquely beautiful. Students will be encouraged to embrace freedom of expression and experimentation, learning to see the beauty in imperfections that make each piece of art special. Ms. Crocker, who is based in New York City, will also take students on virtual field trips to some of the world's most famous art museums, including the Met, MoMA, and the Guggenheim. These virtual visits will be posted once you register for the class, and will explore the works of both renowned and lesser-known artists, with Ms. Crocker modeling how to interact with art in a gallery setting. Students will learn how to ask questions, find inspiration, and dig deeper into the art around them, bringing that knowledge back into their own creative process.
Learning Goals
