Class Experience
Welcome to our line drawing class! After introductions, we will define what a line is in art terms and draw different types of lines to create a chart. Using this and my high-contrast line drawing examples, artists will start their own artwork creating line designs and experiment with their own patterns. My goal is for learners to understand different types of lines and how to incorporate them into an art composition as simple or complex as they would like. They will create an expressive and unique piece of black and white art using minimal supplies they may already have at home.
I graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts degree in visual arts. I have taught K-12 graders for the last 13 years in a variety of subjects, including a monthly art program that focused on art elements and the art masters. I enjoy teaching simple concepts that allow my students to share their ideas freely and express themselves in new ways.
There is no homework assigned, but students are encouraged to try more and more designs.
3-4 pages of blank 8x10 paper 1 page of blank 5x7 paper Black Fine Point Sharpie Black Ultra Fine point Sharpie Ruler or straight edge Scrap paper to lay underneath You may also need: pencil bar eraser colored markers
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Throughout the class, learners will be encouraged to share their work to assess their progress and understanding. We will engage in respectful and relaxed conversation and they are always encouraged to ask questions as needed.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
