In this 3 session online course, students will learn how to construct an affirmative and negative case for LD debate and run their debate cases with the assistance of a professional debate coach.

Projects
1-2 hours per week. Students will need to write an affirmative LD Case and a Negative LD outside of class time.
Assessment
Students will receive oral feedback from the teacher about the debate case.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Intermediate Level
Students will learn the basics of LD debate and have the opportunity to debate in class.  This is an intermediate level Lincoln Douglas Debate class geared towards helping students construct and defend an affirmative and negative LD debate case to be used in high school tournaments.  While the structure of the courses remain the same, the topic will change every time offered in order to address the NSDA topic for US LD Debates.

Learning Goals

Students will learn writing skills, oral persuasion skills and cross examination skills.
More specifically, students will learn how to defend the affirmative and negative sides of the posted LD Debate topic on the NSDA website.  They will learn how to defend and attack a value and value/criterion.  They will learn how to cross examine/rebut.

Lesson 1:
LD Debate: Affirmative Constructive
 Assess the topic, Discuss Values and Criterions, Discuss the best contentions and how to defend them.  Write a quality LD Affirmative Case.

LD Debate: Negative Constructive
 Learn the art of cross examination, Discuss Counter Values and Criterions and how to attack the Affirmative case.  Write a quality LD Negative Case.

Lesson 3:
LD Debate
 Run the affirmative or negative case in class under the scrutiny of an opponent.  Be Ready To Debate in class on Day 3.

Pre-Requisites
Should have a beginner's level understanding of debate.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
