Children love stories! This class introduces Hand Shadow Theater, an ancient form of storytelling and entertainment. The children will use their hands and fingers to create shadows of animals which will serve as the characters in our fable (The Parrot and the Swan). They will enjoy interacting with one another as they reenact a fable which is filled with humor and drives home a moral message. The class helps children develop their language, coordination and fine motor skills. It will expand their ability to imagine and inspire them to create more figures at home using shadows! *** 25% SIBLING DISCOUNT if sharing one screen***

🌸 The philosophy of WONDERSTAND is rooted and inspired by Waldorf education; an education that nurtures each child’s talents and creativity. We strive to cultivate students’ intellectual, artistic, and practical skills in an integrated and personal way. Our courses help children develop the confidence they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. Wonderstand was founded by Karin Pogharian, a passionate teacher with experience at three pioneer Waldorf schools.
🌍 MS. KARIN
I was born in Toronto, Canada into a Colombian-Armenian family. Multiculturalism is part of me. I speak English, Spanish, French and Armenian. I have lived in nine countries. For the last ten years, I have taught children in a variety of contexts, namely: a bilingual international school (Bogota, Colombia), a pioneer Waldorf school (Lake Atitlan, Guatemala), a homeschooling collective (Corsica, France) and online (with China). I graduated with an Honours BSc degree in Medical & Environmental Sciences from Queen's University, Canada. I have a Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults and Young Learners (CELTA-YL). I am a certified Waldorf teacher for grades 1 to 8. In addition, I am a Tai Chi practitioner, a Pilates instructor and I love to dance. I like exploring different forms of artistic expression including watercolour painting, poetry, theater, photography, Blender 3D and Photoshop. I believe in the importance of encouraging children to develop their creativity through a variety of art mediums.
My goal with each course will be to awaken the students’ curiosity. Through interdisciplinary learning, I show students the connections between multiple subjects in order to widen their perspectives and allow them to develop a deeper understanding. The class material comes alive with storytelling which is sometimes based on personal experiences from faraway places, be it in India, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, East Timor, Bali, Peru or California.
