Class Experience

All Pre K and Kindergarten literacy learners will have a fantastic, creative and interactive experience in my environment of 'Light Up With Love For Letters!' Each week, we will meet twice to immerse ourselves in the uppercase/ lowercase recognition of two alphabet letters, respectively. Every enrolled student will print out the two weekly * *Letter Art activities* * from the course's Classroom to complete (and engage with!) during class time alongside myself and their peers.

LETTER ART ACTIVITY/ COURSE STRUCTURE:

Each class' * *Letter Art activity will incorporate several important age-appropriate growth components:

— Differentiating letters, along with verbal communication in deciphering/ comparing those letters
— Following multi-step directions and problem solving
— Nurturing self-regulation skills, such as coloring within literacy-shaped 'boundary lines', listening and engaging with myself and peers with care and by taking turns

We will also manipulate a fun material (i.e. pipe cleaners, pasta, recycled items, etc.) to form the day's letter pair AND

— practice writing the uppercase/ lowercase letter pair of the day (discussing, viewing and practicing how said letter 'sits' on a line). Here, the students will be modeled to/ guided/ happily encouraged to recognize and practice the direction letters are written in. Each will practice letter writing in a calm setting where trying your best is the MOST successful!
— culminate class with a letter-sound Show and Tell!

COURSE READINESS:

Light Up With Love For Letters is for beginning learners and writers, as well as those who are gaining traction in strengthening their literacy muscles.
This course is well-paced and structured, with many spaces for fun, but also provides a comfortable understanding of expectation! My aim (and true belief) is for our collective comfort, focus and literacy skill set to grow as we tuck class after class under our belt.

I may be grown up, but my favorite stories are still found in the land of youth literature!

My natural inclination to read anywhere (including upside down in that childhood recliner I mention in my video!) grew to daydreaming about being the characters I so loved reading about and even wondering what they may be like in the real world. Stories and their inhabitants were never flat to me, but rather full of life and complex – just like us, as it turns out!

After receiving my B.A. in English and Psychology, I taught for over a decade, cultivating my joy in literature and writing through teaching the bright, open minds of Pre K – 1st grade students. I became an educator that sought out books to develop rich, cross-curricular lessons and to build oral language and phonics skills. The world of literacy was (and still is!) accessible to all learners: those at grade level, those clamoring for reading challenges and those who built success with the consistency of a one-on-one/ small group learning environment. Each was meaningful, targeted instruction to best suit elementary reading muscles.

Through my literacy-rooted courses, you will find explorations of character development, personal connections, story elements and cause and effect often intertwined with the ‘science’ of writing: parts of speech, grammar, written fluency/ sequencing, oral communication and weaving words into stories that showcase our imaginations and opinions. Our minds and voices are powerful!

PLEASE don't hesitate to reach out with any curiosities you have about my current class offerings and keep an active eye out for upper elementary to middle grade courses.

An engaging nature, dedicated spirit and discussion galore is sure to accompany each class, as I welcome you into my land of literature!
