50 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this class, we will first learn how to use our camera in shutter speed mode to adjust the shutter speed (and therefore aperture and ISO). Once all the students are familiar with how to control the shutter speed on their camera we will look at making some light paintings. We will cover a few cool ideas for light paintings in class. The students are then free to use their own creativity to create any light paintings that they wish. This is a very interactive class. Other than the very beginning the entire class is quite hands-on with lots of opportunity for the learners to use their cameras. At the beginning of the class, we will quickly cover the basic parts of the camera and how a picture is made. We will then look at what the shutter is and how the shutter speed affects what kind of picture is produced. Once we have covered this the students will learn how to control the shutter speed on each of their cameras. Finally, we will look at a few different methods for making light paintings and we will practice making these ourselves in class. This class is a great way for anyone with an interest in photography to learn a little bit more about how to use their camera whilst simultaneously learning an awesome trick that not only offers hours of fun but a real opportunity to create some brilliant images. No prior knowledge is needed, just an interest in photography and a digital camera!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi!
My name is Dom and I come from London, UK.
On Outschool I teach three subects:
1 - - Introduction to Chinese. I teach Chinese through drawing. We learn how some basic characters, sentences and phrases. Tones are introduced and we also learn how to draw some cartoon characters in each class.
2 - Photography. This is a short introduction to simple photography techniques. How to use your camera and some fun tricks like how to take light trail photos.
3 - Introduction to structures and forces. We look at different designs for bridges and towers and we practice making these using toothpicks to see which design is strongest. After we test our models, we then go over an explanation of why each design works the way it does.
I have over four year's experience tutoring children both English and Maths. I have a Masters degree in Civil Engineering and also have two year's experience working as a structural engineer in London. I have also lived in China since 2017 and am studying to take the HSK6 exam - which is currently the highest level of Chinese in standardised testing. I studied photography at college and have been an avid photographer ever since.
I'm a very engaging and interactive teacher - making sure each child gets involved in class as much as possible. I believe that the class atmosphere should be relaxed, engaging and fun. As only when a student feels comfortable will they learn, and more importantly, retain what they learn.
I also love cooking! I have been to cooking schools around the world and have learned how to cook Italian, Chinese and Thai food.
