Class experience
US Grade 1 - 2
Camp starts with brief introductions while we wait for everyone to join. These intros are longer are the first day of camp. Subsequent days begin with a small ice breaker. Camp is based around a slide presentation using visuals everyone can see. During camp we imagine we are going to space to explore. Suspend reality! This class is meant to be fun with lots of pretending! Discussion is encouraged and appreciated. Day 1: Students get ready to go to space. What do we need to bring with us?...
-Promote critical thinking and scientific inquiry by encouraging students to ask questions, make predictions, and explore answers about the solar system. - Provide opportunities for creative expression through artwork, storytelling, and imaginative play related to the solar system theme. -Discover fascinating facts about each planet, such as their size, color, composition, and notable features. -Help students recognize and name the eight planets in our solar system, emphasizing their unique characteristics and order from the sun.
I love space and find that it is a fascinating subject for many children. I have taught this course as well as a few others on different topics relating to space and we always have a fantastic time. I have a BA decree in Art Conservation and a minor in art. I love incorporating art into my teaching whenever possible.
On Day 5, campers need coloring supplies and paper to draw their own solar system. Campers are always welcome to bring building bricks, modeling clay, kinetic sand or other manipulatives to use during class. They are also welcome to draw space inspired works while they learn!
