Class Experience
PERSEVERANCE is...never, ever, ever giving up. It’s the skill that helps you work through tough things in a positive, effective way. It’s what turns frustration and meltdowns into motivation and determination. It builds character. It builds discipline. It builds self esteem. These skills are critical for our little learners to develop so that they can lead a life they enjoy and are proud if. This class is a part of my Life Skills tool box series. This series is focused on my passion and...
In this class, students will: 1. learn what PERSEVERANCE means. 2. learn how to persevere when faced with difficulties, challenge and obstacles. 3. practice and develop concrete skills they can incorporate into their daily lives. 4. earn their PERSEVERANCE badge and certificate. 5. HAVE FUN!
Professionally, I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I have a Masters of Education (MEd) and Masters of Social Work (MSW) with a focus on Child Development (Risk and Prevention). My passion is helping children realize their potential by teaching them skills to help them lead positive, productive lives. I know that learning happens best in an environment that is engaging and interactive. My goal is to teach material in a way that is fun and memorable.
After class, students will be assigned an activity to complete that focuses on the targeted skill. It will require some parent involvement to complete. The goal is to turn these new skills into habits, which requires daily practice. The activities will be fun to complete and won't require more than 10-15 minutes. Ideally, your child will be talking about these concepts and looking for ways to incorporate them into their daily routines.
1 file available upon enrollmentA printer will be needed to print out handouts (3-6 pages) and a 3-hole punch so you can add these pages to your binder. Also, crayons/markers/colored pencils (whatever you have) will be used after class to complete the assignments. Some homework assignments may also require scissors (with adult supervision) and glue. If you would like to complete the "MY BEST ME" binder to organize all of your LIFE SKILLS SERIES materials, you will need a half-inch binder (or 1 inch if you can't find a 1/2 inch binder) with a clear front pocket.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parental involvement is encouraged so that the ideas we talk about in class can be reinforced between classes. Repetition and reinforcement is critical, especially with younger children. The more students are talking about these concepts outside of class, the easier it will be for them to incorporate them into their daily lives and mindset.
