Class Experience

MINDFULNESS...is being connected and in control of our thoughts, feelings and emotions. Temper tantrums, frustration, anger, hyperactivity and impulsivity are all indications that mindfulness skills need to be developed. When you are able to practice mindfulness you are able to be more calm, focused, relaxed and positive. Sounds good, right? Unfortunately, our children are growing up in a world that is over scheduled, over stimulated and stressful. It is critical for our children to develop these mindfulness skills so they can learn to respond appropriately to these outside influences.

This class is a part of my LIFE SKILLS TOOLBOX SERIES. This series is focused on my passion and professional background of arming students with the skills and tools necessary to dream big dreams, confidently face challenges, overcome obstacles and have a positive outlook on life, regardless of circumstances.The earlier your child is introduced to these concepts and is able to practice these skills, the easier it’s going to be for them to make it a natural part of who they are. These skills are like muscles that need exercise and practice in order to grow big and strong!

This class is packed with fun, interactive activities that will allow your child to grasp the concept of mindfulness and understand its value. I love this class because they will literally FEEL the difference mindfulness can have on their bodies. It’s not just TELLING them they should be mindful, it’s LETTING THEM PLAY with the concept so they can experience the benefits. That’s how you create meaningful change in their hearts.

If you have taken any of my classes before, you know that I love to keep the learning going long after the class is over. At the end of class, I will have handouts and activity sheets your child can complete to reinforce the skill we talked about in class.

If you decide to take other classes in this series, your child will have the opportunity to create their own, personal “MY BEST ME” binder which will be filled with tools activities that reinforce these skills on a daily basis.

Breakdown of class structure:
1. Introduce life skill;
2. concept illustration (video, example, role play, etc.);
3. fun, interactive game/activity that encourages deeper understanding and practice of concept;
4. introduction of "toolbox" materials related to skill and assignment of activities to work on before the next class;
5. wrap up

Please see my Teacher profile for information regarding my class policies and expectations.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Parental involvement is encouraged so that the ideas we talk about in class can be reinforced between classes. Repetition and reinforcement is critical, especially with little learners. The more my little learners are talking about these concepts outside of class, the easier it will be for them to incorporate them into their daily lives and mindset.
Supply List
A printer will be needed to print out handouts (3-6 pages) and a 3-hole punch so you can add these pages to your binder. Also, crayons/markers/colored pencils (whatever you have) will be used after class to complete the assignments. Some homework assignments may also require scissors (with adult supervision) and glue.
If you would like to complete the "MY BEST ME" binder to organize all of your LIFE SKILLS SERIES materials, you will need a half-inch binder (or 1 inch if you can't find a 1/2 inch binder) with a clear front pocket.
