Life Skills: Sibling Bonds
Students will learn to understand and bond with their siblings. We will discuss sibling dynamics, parent treatment: equity vs. equality, conflict resolution, and some ideas to strengthen sibling bonds.

The bond between siblings is a lifelong connection, it's strength is dependent on how much effort and care each person puts into the relationship. Growing up, children spend a lot of time surrounded by their siblings. Siblings become friends, mentors, competitors, role models, emotional supporters, and so much more. In this class, I will use a PowerPoint to guide discussions and activities as we navigate these special bonds. We will look into the different types of bonds siblings can have (protective, rivals, etc.). We will think about why parents may treat different siblings in different ways by discussing equity vs. equality. Next, we look into conflict resolution and a couple of tools that can help us communicate more successfully during arguments. Lastly, we will look into activities that can strengthen the bonds we have with our siblings. The class is structured in a way that invites students to contribute, discuss and ask questions without feeling the need to incorporate their personal struggles. Some activities require a small amount of writing, however, quantity and quality are not checked - this is more for your learner's own reference while we think about topics. At the end of the class, I will post a small PDF workbook containing some journalling questions, recaps of ideas learned, and some sibling bonding suggestions. Hi, my name is Olivia, but you can call me Teacher Liv, or Liv. I am passionate about teaching holistically so that students develop socially, emotionally, and academically. I believe that it is easy for students to get drawn into the magic of fairy tales or make-believe but it takes a little more effort to introduce them to the magic in the world around them. And there is so much magic in the world around us!
In my classroom, we will venture into the depths of English, learning how to go from 'story writing' to adventure telling. We will observe nature and discover the secrets behind the eyes of elephants. We will communicate complex messages and feelings without saying any words at all.
(My favourite teaching areas include: English, Science, and Visual Arts).
In my lessons, students will be encouraged to be curious, to laugh, to lead the way, to be proud of themselves and their learning, and to learn at their own pace. Most importantly, to discover the 'magic' hidden in plain sight in the world around us.
I have been an educator for the past 9 years, teaching and learning from children aged 10 months to 12 years old. I have my Bachelor of Education with a specialization in Montessori Education and in 2022 I gained my TESOL diploma.
In my spare time, I love spending time with my family, being out in nature, traveling, photography, and arts and crafts. So far I have lived in South Africa, New Zealand, and Canada. I love exploring new places and learning about other cultures, languages, and traditions.Reviews
