Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
In this life skills class, we will get on The Energy Bus with George to see how our thoughts and actions shape the world around us.

Through videos, discussions, readings, and quizzes, learners will become empowered with the tools and knowledge needed to shape their worldview through the lenses of positivity and high regard for themselves and others. 

This three-day class will meet for two hours each session. Learners will envision or recall scenarios in which the concepts could have affected the outcome. They will write a personalized version of the concepts learned while traveling with George on The Energy Bus.

Learners will hone their reading and analytical skills, engage in discussions, and develop a set of affirmations to apply to their lives.

over 1 Week
Lesson 1:
A Rough Start Becomes a Smooth Ride
 Chapters 1-12, pages 1-52: The first third of The Energy Bus is about empowering us to take responsibility for our lives. We meet the book’s protagonist, George, a man who falls on hard times. His car breaks down, and he has to take the bus for two weeks. At this time, he meets Joy, a high-energy bus driver who shares the first few rules with him.

We will watch a video synopsis of the Energy Bus and answer discussion questions.

Lesson 2:
Change Your Mind to Change the World Around You
 Chapters 13-24, pages 53-102: In the middle section of The Energy Bus, George begins to see that as he changes the way he thinks, his interactions with his family and the team at work change for the better. He sees positive results and gains enthusiasm for learning more about how his attitude and actions influence others around him. 

Learners will write a summary of the concepts shared by Joy, the bus driver. Each person will discuss ways to implement those concepts that resonate most wi

Lesson 3:
Lessons Learn and Life Affirmations
 Class 3: Chapters 25-34, pages 103-158: The last chapters show the results of George’s implementing all that he learned from Joy on The Energy Bus.

Learners will write the ten concepts from The Energy Bus as personal life statements that they can use as affirmations and reminders to take responsibility for their actions, attitudes, and interactions with others.
