This class is an introduction to life science and the cell. It is the first in a series of classes geared toward getting middle school students that have never studied life science before. The series covers topics students need to understand to prepare for high school biology. By the end of this course, your student will understand cell theory, what characteristics define a living organism versus non-living, visually identify prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, describe different types of cells and why they may have more or less specific organelles, define the function of each organelle, and identify the sequence of mitosis and its importance for the body.
Homework Offered
In this course, your student will have 1-2 review activities each week, two projects, and two short 10 question quiz to check their understanding. All work can be completed digitally or printed for convenience. Project #1 (Week 4) Students will create their own organism and describe how it fulfills the requirements of a living organism. Project #2 (Week 6) Cell diagram. Students will make a cell diagram for either a plant or animal cell.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Students are given short quizzes throughout the course to check their understanding. Parents can ask for a report if needed.Grades Offered
