Beginner - Intermediate Level
Do you love the song "Peaches" from the new Super Mario Brothers movie? I do too! We are going to learn how to play the entire song by ear on the piano. This is a self-paced class, so it will not have live Zoom lessons. Instead, you'll have the flexibility of completing guided practice videos whenever it's convenient for you--and you can rewatch them as many times as you need to during your practice! There are 4 main lessons during this self-paced course: course overview/chorus, verse 1, verse 2, and putting it all together. Students of all experience levels are welcome--this course will work even if you've never played piano before! I start each guided practice video off at a beginner level, focusing on the right hand. More advanced players can continue the vide for more challenging instruction, often focusing on the left hand or combining hands. I believe that students learn best by doing. While I model all of the skills taught in the class, students are encouraged to play along with each guided practice video. I hope you will enjoy playing Peaches as much as I have!
Learning Goals
Beginner students will be able to play the melody of Peaches in the right hand.
Advanced students will be able to play Peaches with two hands combined.

Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from SUNY Fredonia
I'm a certified music teacher with over a decade of experience teaching music in the public schools. My Bachelor's Degree (from SUNY Fredonia) is in music education, and my Master's Degree (from Loyola University Maryland) specializes in Kodály Music Education.
My mom was a piano teacher and my dad was a public school music teacher, so in one sense you could say I've always grown up around music and the piano. I had traditional piano lessons growing up and in college. However, around Middle School I discovered that my real love for piano is Boogie Woogie music, the blues, and improvisation. I would have given anything at the time for improvisation instruction; that's one of the reasons why I'm so passionate about passing on my love of piano improvisation with young students today!
