This course is expected to follow my Saxophone Basics Course, and will continue to build on the skills necessary to play the saxophone. This course will run for 8 weeks. We will learn basic fingerings and practice reading notes on the treble clef. I will have my saxophone during class to help demonstrate proper finger placement, as well as quality sound. We will use the book listed in the 'sources' portion, to help guide this learning. Instruction will be given during the 30 minute class...
Students will learn to read notes on the treble clef. Students will learn proper fingerings for the saxophone. Students will be introduced to timing and rhythm. Students will be able to read key signatures and time signatures. Students will play simple songs and improve their music knowledge.
I have played the saxophone for 30 years. My music lessons began when I was 6. I started playing the piano and learned to read music both in treble and bass clef. I began playing the saxophone in 5th grade, and have been playing ever since. I still play the saxophone on a weekly basis in our church orchestra.
Students should expect to spend 15 minutes, 5 days a week practicing outside of class.
An alto saxophone. Essential Elements 2000: Eb Alto Saxophone, Book 1 by Hal Leonard Corp. ($10 on average, available on amazon) It is also recommended that students have a music stand to hold their books. I would recommend a level 2 or 2 1/2 alto saxophone reed.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
