Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 1
In this on going course, learners will learn to read with phonics y as a vowel and long vowel teams (ai, oa, oe, ow, ei, igh, ue, ew).
Reading Y as a Vowel and Long Vowel Teams With Mrs. Rose (Level 7): In this class, students will learn to read and write words with y as a vowel (making the sounds /e/ and /i/) and words with long vowel teams. Using letter symbol cues and pictures, students will practice the sounds, how to blend, and read words with vowel teams. A worksheet is provided for the student to support the activity in class, for word and hand writing practice. Students will be exposed to oral language practice for phonemic awareness (recognition and play with sounds), and phonics skills to read words. Powerpoints are used as the main presentation. Digital reading books will be used as needed, to supplement the practice of reading words in text. As I adjust to meeting the needs of the learners virtually, I may make modifications as to how I present a concept. ***Students must know all letters, sounds, and decoding short (cvc) AND long vowel words (cvce) to be successful in this class.***

***In order for me to assist your child while reading, I do require cameras to be turned on during class. I need to be able to see their mouths and how they are forming the sounds in words.***

Welcome! I am a Florida Certified Educator. I have been a primary teacher for 20 years. I taught PreK, Kindergarten, and First Grade. I have my Master's Degree in Brain Based Teaching with a Focus on Literacy. (This program was based on what is now known as the Science of Reading). I am currently continuing my education with the Science of Reading courses. I have also completed the Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator Level training. I love all aspects of teaching reading and helping students fall in love with and learn to read. I truly believe in hands-on learning, using a variety of teaching styles to meet all students where they are. What works for one student, may not work for another. I am always ready to make changes to to help each and every student learn. I am married with an inquisitive 9 year old daughter. She truly keeps me on my toes as I watch her grow and learn. We also have a 5 year old Boxer-Lab pup who completes our family.
