Class Experience

This class is a continuation of Level 2 - Beginner Violin Group Class. If your learner has not taken that class, please contact me to ensure that the level will be appropriate. As long as your violinist can play simple songs on the A and E strings and knows the note names from A through F#, they will fit right in! Learners in Level 2 would have covered songs like Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, Lightly Row, French Folk Song & Mary Had a Little Lamb. NOTE READING IS NOT REQUIRED TO TAKE THIS CLASS since we will be learning note-reading in this session.

Sample schedule:
Week 1, Sept.30: Review of concepts covered in Violin Group Class Level 2 - quarter & half notes, quarter rests, learning note names as well as string name/finger number
Weeks 2, Oct.7: Repertoire, note reading
Week 3, Oct.14: Lightly Row
Week 4, Oct.28: Learners' Choice
Week 5, Nov.4: Continue with repertoire
Week 6, Nov.11: Allegro
Week 7, Nov.18: Continue Allegro and note-reading
Week 8: Performance week!

Exact pieces to be covered will depend on the individual group. We will learn through games, drills, interactive activities, and ensemble work.

Learners MUST have an appropriate-sized violin, bow & shoulder rest to take this class. Please message me for guidance on obtaining an instrument or with any other questions you have. If your learner is outside the age range, please get in touch to ensure that the class will be appropriate.
Learning Goals
Violinists will continue to advance in their skills while getting more comfortable reading notes in the treble clef on the A and E strings. We will also aim to play more on the D and G strings and learn about transposition.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I could tell you about my qualifications, but that alone won't tell you who I am. I have a MMus. in Violin Performance, B.Mus. in Violin Performance, and BA in French. I have been teaching for over 30 years and thankfully still love it!

I currently offer violin, viola, piano, French, and Hebrew classes. My educational philosophy is guided by the main principle of my 25 years as a licensed Kindermusik educator: "Follow the child" - if learners are engaged and having fun, not only will they retain the information but they will want to learn and progress more!
