*Students will be actively coding in this class and need the supervision of an adult.* In this beginning coding class, students will learn to solve various puzzles and directional puzzles using Tynker Junior. First, students will have a chance to share something with the class and introduce themselves. They will then learn to solve each “Robots” puzzle to work our way through the level with guidance from the teacher and build their confidence in their digital puzzle solving skills! Students will practice using their analytical skills to help build robots and events on the Tynker Jr. app. (App download on iOS devices only). In Level 2 “Robots,” students code a robot factory to design different types of robots, use 'tilt' events to program a robot game, code robots to dance and wave using “tap” events, and navigate robots through a maze to collect power cells. They will also learn flexible sequencing as they solve the same puzzle in different ways. Level 1 class is recommended, but it is not a required prerequisite. This level uses icon coding (great for pre-readers). Perfect beginning coding class for your pre-schooler! *Students will need to have access to the subscription version of the Tynker Junior app on a second iOS device for this class (Free app download AND 7-day trial available but this level does require a subscription).
Learning Goals
Students will learn sequencing, pattern recognition and critical thinking to solve a variety of puzzles and build confidence in their problem solving skills through guidance and support from the teacher.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am married with an eleven year old, and we live in North Carolina. We love being outdoors as a family, and we are very lucky to split our time between the beautiful coast and mountains of our state.
I love reading with children, and I specialize in phonics, letter sounds, word-building, and sounding out words with young readers. This helps beginning readers learn to read quickly and independently! My son was reading well before entering kindergarten. I loved volunteering weekly in both his kindergarten and first grade classrooms. I have a B.A. in English from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and I also earned a TESOL certificate from International Open Academy. I have been teaching children as young as three years old online for over 6 years. It is my passion! I look forward to seeing you in the classroom!
