Class Experience
In this on going course, learners will review phonemic awareness skills and phonics with letter sounds and letters. It is appropriate for learners who are ready for preschool/kindergarten as well as ESL learners. Let's Get Reading With Mrs. Rose: Focus on Reviewing Letter Sounds, students will REVIEW the sounds and letters of the alphabet with an emphasis on the sounds the letter symbol makes. In order to read, the importance is the sound of the letter, not the naming of the letter. Each...
This class is appropriate for students who have a firm understanding of letter sounds, and are beginning to read. This is a REVIEW letter sound class, and introduction to word building and reading. Students will review the letter sounds, as well as practice writing the letter symbol, and building words. Each lesson will incorporate phonemic awareness exercises for beginning sounds, word building skills, and written practice of writing the words. Students will be introduced how to combine the sounds learned to read words. Students MUST have letter sound knowledge to be successful in this class.
For 18 years, I have taught primary students. I began my teaching experience in PreK, then I moved to first grade for fourteen years. I have taught kindergarten for the last two years. During that time, I completed my Master's Degree in Brain Based Teaching of Literacy. My teaching style is hands-on and I use many visuals for the students. I am able to incorporate many strategies to meet the needs of all learners.
Homework should take no longer than twenty to thirty minutes. While the worksheet is part of class, there may be days that it is not completed within the class time. Please have your child complete the worksheet for practice.
Having the materials prepared prior to class, will help your student learn organizational skills. Please provide a quiet work space for them. Worksheets will be sent out Sunday evenings. Please print prior to class. They will be posted to the classroom, as well as the learner's message area. Pencil, crayons or markers. (I have found markers to work best, as then I can see the writing when students share.) White board and dry erase markers
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Learners who complete 6 weeks of instruction will be scheduled for a complimentary assessment with Mrs. Rose to evaluate their mastery of skills taught.
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
This class is appropriate for learners who have had previous exposure to letters and sounds, and need review or support with letter sounds. It is also appropriate for those who have mastered their letter sounds and are ready to begin building words. Students MUST have letter sound knowledge to be successful in this class.
