Description
Class Experience
In this multi-course class, students will learn how to read a crochet pattern in order to make a simple and cute octopus. This course is designed for those that already know how to do the basics in crocheting, such as doing a single crochet stitch. If you are just learning how to crochet, I HIGHLY recommend taking my 'Level 1 Crocheting' class first. It will teach you the very basics of crocheting! The first course will be about how to do the basic stitches that are often used in amigurumi,...
In addition to learning how to read a crochet pattern, the students will also learn the following stitches: Single Crochet Increase Single Crochet Decrease Single Crochet Back Loop only Half Double Crochet Slip Stitch
I have been crocheting for 4 years now, and I specialize in crocheting amigurumi! I have also crocheted plenty of blankets, hats and scarves as well.
It is not required, but it is highly recommended that the students practice the basic stitches in between courses. This way, making the octopus will be a little bit easier to do.
REQUIRED: -Yarn: It's best to buy acrylic yarn for this course. Any color is fine! -Crochet hook: the size of the crochet hook does not matter for this lesson, but beginners may have an easier time crocheting with a bigger hook -Scissors -Needle: if using regular needles makes you uncomfortable, you can purchase plastic needles from a hobby store -Stuffing: Poly Fiber Fill, Yarn scraps, or something soft to stuff the octopus with -Stitch Marker (Craft marker used for marking a new row of stitches) OPTIONAL: -Materials for the Octopus's Eyes (Safety Eyes or Felt)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
2 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
I will provide videos showing how to do each of the stitches used in making this project. After the second and third course from this lesson, I will also provide a pattern for both making a ball and the octopus.
