Description
Class Experience
This class is for students who have taken a previous course with me, i.e., Level 1 of Building Confidence & Public Speaking, (or an equivalent introductory course) Students will build on skills developed in our first hours together, with new games and practice speaking activities. We will focus on organization of thought and message through crafting outlines, refining written speeches and polishing extemporaneous delivery. Students will be challenged to give longer and more detailed...
Students will learn to focus their thinking and speak with clarity, assertion, and confidence. Students will build upon their natural strengths. Students will learn and practice skills that will carry them confidently into further training and more formal speaking settings. Students will be encouraged, to respectfully interact with one another, listen actively, and to provide constructive feedback.
This course is informed by my training in the arts, and my experience as an educator. I currently work as a teacher in a classroom, (and online). In the past, I have travelled the world as a singer and songwriter, and spoken as a panelist at various music conferences. I've conducted interviews with major label artists for various media outlets. Since 2007, I have produced and hosted my own radio show and podcast. I have worked in schools teaching Public Speaking. With our virtual presence required more and more, I am excited to bring this course online.
Most work will be done in class, though students will be asked to brainstorm topic ideas for homework, and will have optional assignments to practice between sessions.
Handouts and slides will be provided online. Students need pen/paper or a way to type documents during class.
I provide ongoing feedback as I scaffold overall development and broaden student understanding of their own potential. I work to individualize feedback to push students outside their comfort zones.
50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
