How to hold your Ukulele How to tune your ukulele How to do a basic strum Familiarity with basic chords like C, C7, F, G, G7 Playing the ukulele is fun and not too difficult. In this class we will be playing and singing popular songs. I help students learn, by breaking things down into chunks and giving students opportunities to have success right away! My philosophy is students learn through playing and experimenting with an instrument. Supply List
Students will need some previous experience with playing a ukulele. They need to know how to hold the ukulele, strum the ukulele and be familiar with a few chords. They also need a ukulele and a tuner for this class. I recommend Soprano or Concert size ukuleles for kids. Soprano is a bit smaller than the concert size. I also recommend a Snark tuner (they seem to work the best), but other tuners are fine. Having the Ukulele pre-tuned is necessary. Your child may need help with tuning during the first class, as new ukuleles will be very out of tune. New ukuleles also will need to be tuned more often at first, as the strings stretch.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
I'm so excited to be able to teach kids on-line! I love working with one on one, small groups and even large groups of kids! As long as I am teaching and learning with kids, I am happy.
I have been teaching in Colorado for 20 years and have a masters degree in elementary education. I am also a certified music teacher. Because of this, I have lots of experience teaching elementary reading, writing, math, social studies, science, movement, music, signing, drama and other skills! I also love to do extra special classes, like sing along with a Disney Princess, or Putting on a Play, or How to Play the Ukulele. I have many classes with my monster friend (puppet) Fuzz. He’s so funny and just loves to learn from kids.
I believe that all kids can learn and that teachers can learn from them as well. As an elementary student, I struggled in school. And because of this, I understand about the varied ways in which students learn. I have lots of modalities to teach and to engage your child. Most importantly, I know that learning must be fun! In my classes, get ready to laugh, and make new friends, while learning some important skills. Hope to see you soon!
