Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
The goal of this class is for students to apply the fundamentals of music to their instrument. This includes reading notes and rhythms, recognizing and playing scales, keys, and intervals, as well as combining all of these elements to either understand on a deeper level the music they are practicing, performing, or even creating
Homework sheets will be uploaded to a google drive so students can access the worksheets as soon as they’re ready to work on them. Link for the google drive will be provided upon registering for the class

Completed homework is to be submitted to me for marking and feedback

Completing homework for the class is optional, but encouraged to get the full value of the class
It is a requirement for this class that students already play an instrument. Any level of proficiency is acceptable, but this course is designed to supplement their musical studies, so if they're not already into an instrument, this course is not for your learner. Students who do not play an instrument and are signed up for this class will be dropped from the course and refunded 75% after the first class. Studying voice does count as an instrument, and voice students are more than welcome to participate in this class! However, in my experience voice students have the hardest time with these concepts unless they've picked up (at least a bit of) another instrument already. If your learner studies voice only, use your discretion for whether or not this class is a good fit for them
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Rather than grading students, these five sentences below should tell you where your learner is at and how well they've done with the topics each week, as well as the course overall:

If your learner is able to apply the concepts from this class to their instrument, combine them with other concepts, and recognize them in the music they're studying, and potentially explain what they've learned to you - Amazing!

If your learner is able to apply the concepts from this class to their instrument after, and understands what they're doing - Excellent!

If your learn is able to apply the concepts from this class to their instrument after, but doesn't quite get it - still great!

Needs work:
If your learner is struggling to apply what they've learned in class to their instrument - let's book a 1 on 1 chat to review the material

If your learner is frustrated, doesn't have an interest in the material, and it's taking away from their instrument - now is not the right time for this class for them
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.

About Me

Before I started kindergarten, my mom looked at me teaching my younger brother everything that I could and thought "He's going to be a teacher some day..."

Fast forward to now...

I've been teaching music in my local community and online for 11...
