Description
Class Experience
Students will be able to identify examples of creative writing, the elements of creative writing, and understand imagery. Students will be able to improve their understanding and apply their knowledge and practice in their own writing for academic and personal use.
While being a professional journalist, author, and English/LA educator, creative writing is a passion of mine that I use and learned how to develop, even crossing into "technical" writing to create an image to better express concrete ideas and messages for better understanding and execution. As a child, I thrived in creative writing and wish to encourage youth to participate and master their writing in all forms through a better understanding of the creative writing process.
Students will be encouraged to apply the skills they learn in each class towards their own writing creations they work on in between classes. While they are not mandatory, they will help in participation, active engagement of the concepts learned, and be used as a tool to check for understanding.
Pencil, paper, computer with a word processing program such as Word. Optional printer to print handouts.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Each learner will be assessed with feedback after each class based on their overall participation, comprehension, behavior, and how they work with others in discussions. A detailed report can be made available upon request.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
