Welcome little lambs! During this course, I will teach students the first skill in phonological awareness by focusing on letter sound awareness. I will begin by teaching letters A-Z, using pictures of the alphabet with objects along with actions. This class focuses on uppercase letters. Students will be encouraged to act out and sing the sounds along with me. Example: "B for bounce, /b/ /b/ /b/". After we explore each letter, we will review as we sing the Alphardy song, by Dr. Jean. Learners will act out each action for the letter sound as we sing. Using a combination of songs, visuals, and movement will help your little learner stay engaged! I understand how challenging it can be to teach our little learners their letter sounds, based on my experience as a preschool teacher for almost 10 years. This fun and engaging activity was my student's favorite morning routine. Not only did they enjoy it, they also mastered these skills within a few weeks. To maximize student engagement, it is helpful that your child has minimum knowledge of the alphabet. *Phonological Awareness is an auditory skill. It is the ability to recognize and manipulate speech sounds within spoken language. Developing Phonological Awareness in preschool leads to success in reading and writing in the school years. A child's individual development of phonological awareness is closely tied to overall language and speech development, and is a strong predictor of reading success.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome! My name is Mrs. Rachel Williams! I teach preschool through kindergarten aged courses. I was born and raised and Texas, but I now reside in Florida with my husband. My hobbies are drawing, decorating, and painting! I have a Bachelor's of Science degree in Elementary Education with Multi-Disciplinary Studies and an ESL (English as a Second Language) Endorsement from McMurry University. During college, I was an art teacher and also taught kindergarten and fourth grade as an intern. After I graduated, I taught first grade for a year and preschool/VPK (Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten) for almost 7 years. Due to the pandemic, I recently left my job as an Early Education/Parent Engagement Specialist, where I created and provided hands-on educational trainings for parents and teachers. I also observed classrooms and rated their quality of teaching. My current skills and abilities have enabled children to flourish in a structured environment, which prepared them for their future. Teaching is my passion and I take great pride in my students. I believe that young children learn best through playing. My teaching style is fun, engaging, and encouraging. I enjoy planting the seeds of "lifelong learning" into young children and watching them grow. I tend to focus on teaching children early literacy (phonics), math (including numbers, counting, shapes, and colors) and social-emotional skills. A fun fact about me is that I love to decorate my home and paint in my spare time! I also love communicating with parents so if you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I look forward to working with you as a team to help nourish your child's growth.
