US Grade Kindergarten - 1
Kids LOVE to tell you what they think! Cupcakes or ice cream? Swinging or sliding? Skills covered include, listening, speaking, connecting to a story, sharing thoughts and putting them into a spoken and then written sentence. We discuss ideas for a written response and then work together to write an opinion piece. Students will share their opinion and at least one reason to support that opinion. Using an interactive five-step process, students will improve their ability to write a simple opinion piece correctly spell age-appropriate high frequency words. Please note: We will use phonetic spelling for some words (writing words as they sound). This course does not focus on spelling, but builds confidence in getting ideas on paper.
I am a licensed PreK-Grade 3 teacher with a M.S. in Elementary Education. During my 20 years as a teacher, I have had extensive training and experience coaching young writers. I am passionate about encouraging a love of writing in my students.
Learners will need a pencil or marker. A writing template will be provided, but students may use regular paper if they wish.
