Young writers will learn how to write basic sentences using an exciting picture prompt to describe the amazing adventures of Finnegan the Dog.
Class experience
This is a fun and engaging class for beginning writers. Each week, Finnegan the Dog will have a new adventure! We may join him and his sidekick Chester on the Moon, at the beach, under the sea, at school, or on a seasonal activity. With the help of the provided vocabulary words, we will write basic sentences to describe Finnegan's weekly adventure. The lesson will follow an I DO, WE DO, YOU DO(with support) approach. Learners will learn to write basic sentences by brainstorming ideas, using provided vocabulary words, using proper structure, capitalization and punctuation. They will brainstorm ideas from a picture prompt. They will share their writing with others.
A two-page handout will be provided for each class. Please do not print double-sided. If you choose not to print the picture prompt page, it is important that your child can access the file on another screen. I will not be able to display the picture prompt or the vocabulary words once we start to write together. There is also a cover-page file that was sent to you upon signing up for the class. It makes a beautiful title page if you wish to keep your learner's writing together in a book. I encourage this as it is a real motivator for children to have their writing in a special book. The children are encouraged to color the cover and share it at the beginning of their first class. I look forward to sharing Finnegan's adventures with you!
