Let's Write- Paragraphs for Beginners

In this 2-week course, students will learn how to write a 3-paragraph essay using a topic sentence, supporting details and conclusion. Students will look at examples of strong and weak paragraph essays and will write their own before the last class. Students will choose from several prompts (my favorite animal, favorite present ever received/given, my perfect day, favorite family tradition). Students will learn how to write an outline and how to brainstorm before writing a draft of their essay. Students will get a chance to read their paragraphs aloud and get feedback from both teacher and other students. A description for both classes will be found below.

class 1: Students will learn what a basic 3-paragraph essay is. We will look at a short slideshow on what makes a strong essay. We will look at examples of topic sentences, supporting facts/details, and conclusions. Students will pick a topic from several prompts. We will learn how to make an outline for an essay.

class 2: Students will bring their completed 3-paragraph essay to class. Students who are comfortable reading their paragraphs aloud are encouraged to do so. Students will receive feedback from teacher and peers.
