Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
In this ongoing writing class, students will brainstorm by discussing in class, create an outline, and write a short two paragraph essay. Students will discuss ideas on the weekly writing prompt, or use their own idea, and write an outline for their essay. Students will finish their essays and share them in the classroom group under the prompt post area. The writing prompt for each week will be posted in the classroom area. Students will post their essays in one of three ways. 1. A word document uploaded to the post area. 2. A link to a sharable Google Doc. 3. Typed in one of these, copied and pasted in the classroom group as a post under the writing prompt. A different writing prompt will be used each week. Class will be held with one student enrolled.

Sample class topics:
Week 1 - Prompt - You can save one thing before your house burns down. What is it? What makes that object important to you?
Week 2 – Prompt - You get to take one book, one food item, and one famous person (living or dead) to a deserted island. What and who do you take? Why?
Week 3 – Prompt - What three features should your future house have? Why?
Week 4 – Prompt - You come home and find everything upside down. What happened?

If no students are enrolled, the class session for that week will be cancelled 30 minutes prior to the class start time. However, the prompt will be available in the group.

I love writing and the biggest problem area is not knowing what to write. I have a Master Degree in Teaching and Learning with Technology and was required to write a paper each week. I also have 72 hours toward a Educational Doctorate where I was also writing papers each week. I was in my dissertation when I ran out of funds to continue. I have taught ESL online and have taught many English classes in the public schools.

We will write about prompts to help students learn to overcome that writer's block. I am a substitute teacher and have written many papers for my university classes. I understand how important it is for students to be able to write short essays on tests.
