Each week we will tackle a new component of our essay. First we will learn what an essay is and the different types of them. Next, we will brainstorm our topic and organize our thoughts. After that, we will spend time each week completing a paragraph from the essay. Paragraph One: Introduction Paragraph Two: First Supporting Detail Paragraph Three: Second Supporting Detail Paragraph Four: Third Supporting Detail Paragraph Five: Closing Paragraph In summary, students will learn all the mechanics for essay writing including: • essay structure • how to create an introductory paragraph • what is a thesis statement • how to create the body of an essay • how to create a concluding paragraph • types of essays • adding detail (adjectives, adverbs) • self-editing Each week, students will learn a new component of essay writing. The first week we will be talking about all the parts of an essay including the different types. The following weeks they will be working on each paragraph of the essay. They will be expected to complete each section of the paragraph before the next class starts. The teacher will read each paragraph and offer written feedback to the student.
