Welcome to the dragon-writing class! You will need pencils and 3 sheets from your notebook. In the beginning, we are going to tell dragon tales to help students feel comfortable. It is optional for students to tell a dragon story! Students are welcome to bring a homemade puppet dragon. The purpose of this activity is to encourage students to think more creatively before writing. Next, Students will learn how to describe their dragons collaboratively. They will learn all about descriptive words and they will also differentiate between nouns, verbs and adjectives. We will do some exercises to strengthen their understanding of basic grammar. Students will then start writing with stem sentences that we have created together in class. Students should write about four to five sentences. Lastly, students can share their work with their peers
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to use correct sentence structure. Students will learn to use descriptive and action words in their writing.

Teacher expertise and credentials
2 Degrees
Bachelor's Degree in Fine/Studio Arts from Memorial University of Newfoundland
Bachelor's Degree in English Language and Literature from Memorial University of Newfoundland
Hello there! I am passionate about teaching arts and craft to students between the ages of 6 - 11.
I have worked with youth for 9 years and my experience includes teaching English as a Second Language online and working in after-school programs. I have taught on a number of online tutoring platforms, such as Vipkid and Qkids. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing students progress from saying short phrases to full sentences and finally, to having full-blown conversations.
Additionally, I have also taught at a YMCA after school program where I planned various activities including arts and crafts. Activities included paper crafts, step-by-step fantasy drawings, animal-life drawings, paper-crafts puppets and other engaging projects! I believe that should be engaged, excited and follow their curiosities. My approach is very hands-on and interactive!
I completed a Bachelor of fine arts in visual arts at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College where I explored different mediums such as drawing, sculpture and performance art. During this period, drawing and sculpture was a major focus. I delved into different drawing techniques specifically related to the human body. I also explored sculpture using materials such as wood, ceramics and metal. I would love to teach these skills to students from all over the world! I believe in providing a creative environment where they can flourish.
In addition, I completed a Bachelors' degree in English Literature with a minor in Anthropology. I also received some credits for French. This degree has afforded me a number of skills including critical thinking, essay writing and creative writing. These skills will help me to communicate with students at all levels.
In my spare time, l am a bookworm, who loves listening to audio-books or reading books. This has been a life long hobby that began 25 years ago. Moreover, I love cooking, learning new languages and about other cultures as well! I am also very adventurous, I have done skiing on some of the great Canadian slopes on the east side!
