US Grade 2 - 4
Creating an interesting beginning 'hook', writing a middle with purpose and developing a strong ending for a short story will be taught in this class. Through brainstorming with classmates and the teacher, a topic list will be generated. We will use our pets or stuffed animals to help with ideas. Learners will choose a topic and write 3-5 complete sentences. A variety of word choice examples will be provided. Parts of speech will be reviewed as students write. Learners can add illustrations to their writing as time and interest allow. The class will be structured as teacher facilitated with frequent interaction and sharing between students. Pets and stuffed animals will be welcome in class to prompt discussion and interaction. I will teach through modeling using my own pet and writing to encourage learners as they work. My teaching style is upbeat, positive and interactive. I see myself as a facilitator who supports and encourages learner ideas and work. Learners will interact with me and each other frequently in the class via discussion and sharing of work.
