In this Theatre 101 class, students can expect to learn theatre terminology, acting games and exercises, and how to present themselves confidently onstage. Students will learn basic theatre terminology, memorization skills, proper breathing techniques to be heard loudly and clearly, and build their confidence speaking in front of a group. Students will also get to stretch their creative muscle to create their own characters as well as collaboration skills. They will also learn some theatre and Broadway history.
I am a professional actor with a BFA in Theatre Performance. I have worked professionally as a teacher of Acting, Improv, and Musical Theatre in schools and after school programs.
Learners will be tasked with creating their character's backstory and come prepared to class with any specific dialogue or story lines for their characters. They will also be expected to have their lines memorized by the specified date.
A notebook and writing instrument. Any costume pieces or props appropriate to their character and the play. I will instruct them to use their creativity and imagination to repurpose items them already have.
Informal assessment based on participation and preparedness for class.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
The play we create together will be age appropriate. Parental Guidance is only needed if they wish to observe.
