1-2 hours per week. Each week, students will be expected to complete their paragraph and use the checklist provided to ensure they include all the necessary requirements.

Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Each week we will tackle a new paragraph and incorporate specific writing styles.  A new topic will be covered each week.  It's important to me to teach the students about certain topics such as: animals, famous people, places...
Writing is an important skill that needs to be practiced and mastered over time.  With this class, it is my aim to get my students conformable with the writing process.  
Becoming familiar and comfortable with certain writing mechanics such as: topic sentence, supporting details and closing statements is the goal. 

In summary, students will learn all the mechanics for creating a paragraph including: 
• keyword summaries
• paraphrasing
• topic sentences
• supporting details
• closing statements 
• adding detail (adjectives, adverbs)
• because clause
• who/which clause
• strong verbs
• different sentence openers

 
Each week, students will get a new paragraph to work on and recreate.  
They will be expected to complete the paragraph for homework using the tools introduced and the checklist provided and submit it before the following session.  
The teacher will mark the paragraph according to a checklist provided and offer positive feedback to the student.

A printer is needed to print out the keyword summary/paragraph and checklist.  This will be posted in the classroom prior to class.  Please make sure to check right before class for the printouts.

I have been an educator for nearly 23 years. My teaching experience has been in many different learning environments such as preschool, the classroom, and one-on-one.  
I am certified as an Early Childhood Educator and Orton-Gillingham Therapeutic Tutor.  
I am a homeschool mom for the past 12 years to my three (now teenage) children. I have an extensive background in working with students of all levels, specifically children with learning disabilities.  My 14-year-old daughter has dyslexia, so I bring a broad perspective not only as a teacher but as a parent.  My passion is to work with all students and help facilitate them in their learning.
