Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) Learn how to outline and write a paragraph. After reading a non-fiction selection, students will be taught through modeling and guided practice how to form a key-word outline and verbally retell the information in their own words. After watching the teacher model how to write a paragraph from the outline, students will write a paragraph of their own for homework. Students will learn how to “dress up” their paragraph with at least one -ly...
Students will be able to form a key-word outline, based on a non-fiction source text. Using their outline, they will practice verbally retelling the information in their own words. They will also learn how to use -ly adverbs to “dress up” their writing.
I am an accredited IEW instructor with 5 years experience using this curriculum in small-group settings.
Students will write one paragraph, consisting of 5-7 sentences, based on their in-class outline and verbal retelling.
2 files available upon enrollment*Bring to class a writing utensil and something to write on (paper/pencil, small whiteboard/marker, etc...). *A PDF source text and checklist will be provided to guide the students as they work in class and write their paragraph for homework.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be given a checklist to guide their writing. They may submit their completed paragraphs to me for feedback.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
