Description

Class Experience

Skills covered include, listening, speaking, sharing thoughts and putting them into a spoken and then written words.  Learners will listen to a story like, "Bunny Cakes" by Rosemary Wells. Then, we discuss ideas for a written response and then work together to write a list or two about a topic of their choice.  This class is perfect for students who are just starting to put sounds together to write words, but may not be ready for writing sentences yet and students who are overwhelmed by the...

Using an interactive five-step process, students will improve their ability to write a simple list on a topic of their choice and correctly spell age-appropriate sight words. Please note:  We will use phonetic spelling for some words (writing words as they sound).  This course does not focus on spelling, but builds confidence in getting ideas on paper.

I am a licensed PreK-Grade 3 teacher with a M.S. in Elementary Education. During my 20 years as a teacher, I have had extensive training and experience coaching young writers. I am passionate about encouraging a love of writing in my students.

No homework required, but learners are encouraged to practice writing on their own.

A list template will be provided, but students are welcome to use a notebook or plain paper, too.

45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
