Let's Write a Book! Authors' Club (Ongoing)
Class experience
Once a week, students will get together to talk about progress writing their books, have a chance to share snippets of their stories with the class by reading them out loud, and go over a concept that will help them improve their creative writing skills. Class meetings will be structured as a student-driven discussion, and I will be there to provide insight, topic review, and pointers, as well as to make sure that everyone has a chance to share as they feel comfortable. If students don't have...
The goal of this class is to allow learners to get feedback on their work, both from me and from peers. We will also have weekly reviews of what students learned in "Let's Write a Book! Planning Your Story" as well as topics such as sentence structure, voice, falling point, etc.
I have experience as a beta reader for media directed at preteens and young teens.
Homework Offered
While students will work on their stories on their own time and at their own pace, I will not be assigning any homework that must be completed. Students are strongly encouraged to write for at least an hour total every week, but it is by no means a requirement.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
There will be no formal assessment given. However, detailed critiques will be available upon the student's request.Grades Offered
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
These stories will be coming from learners' imaginations, and I will be encouraging students to share. All content must be SFS (Safe for School) but there are many books in literature targeted towards preteens and teens that involves violent themes and occasional swear words, (Such as d*mn and b*st*rd, but never as strong as the F word. Slurs are NEVER allowed in any form). I will inform all learners that they need to give content warnings for violent content and mild swearing, but being that this is a creative writing class, there may be learners who choose to write about these topics. However, I will monitor this closely and make sure appropriate warnings are put in place for students who do not want to be exposed to these themes.
