In this trial lesson students will learn: the guitar string names, how to tune, a chord pattern for a modern pop tune using the G major chord, the C major chord and the E minor chord and a basic strumming technique using all down strokes.

Class experience

This class is taught in English.
In this class, I will teach music theory concepts such as: how to read chords, how to identify string names, how to perform chords, how to play rhythm patterns, how to strum on your guitar.
I have earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay in Instrumental Music and General Music.  I am a licensed K-12th grade music teacher living in western Wisconsin.  I have taught K-12th grade music in the following areas: band, general music, orchestra, marching band, pep band, choir, vocal music (musicals), private instrumental music lessons on: piano, guitar, trumpet, clarinet, flute, saxophone, tuba, trombone and baritone.  I have performed trumpet in groups such as:  the Rochester Concert Band, the Mayo Clinic Chamber Orchestra and have written original music for Dan Kasper's Man Cave Podcast.

I use a performance rubric 4- exceeds expectations 3- meets expectations 2- emerging toward expectation 1- does not meet expectations Example: Rhythm Rubric (performance rubric) 4- The beat is secure and the rhythms are accurate for the style of music being played. 3- The beat is secure and the rhythms are mostly accurate. There are a few duration errors, but these do not detract from the overall performance. 2- The beat is somewhat erratic. Some rhythms are accurate. Frequent or repeated duration errors. Rhythm problems occasionally detract from the overall performance. 1- The beat is usually erratic and rhythms are seldom accurate detracting significantly from the overall performance.
Grades Offered
Hal Leonard Guitar Book 1 and Hal Leonard Modern Band Method - Guitar Book (Red Book).  These materials are only if you'd want to continue private guitar lessons.
