Students are encouraged to read as much as they would like to about Russia before the class. They can choose one area of interest (example: location, capital, flag, weather and other geographical features, customs, typical local food, local wild animals, or any other topic that student is interested in) and research this topic before the class. Students will be encouraged to share their knowledge of the country in the beginning of the class (sources might be required). They are welcome to share pictures and/or videos from their research in the class as well. Additional activity options (after class): 1. Create your own passport and fill it out as we "travel" - files will be shared in the welcome post. 2. Scratch off map, for students to scratch each country that we learn about each week.Class Experience
US Grade 4 - 7
Is your child a geography guru or very new to this topic? In this class everybody will be able to learn something new. This is a taster class for the on-going Let's Travel the World Together class (in which we learn about a new country each week). We will not only learn Geography in this class, but also get a taste of the local culture, exposing the students to the similarities and differences between nations. Class Structure and Content: - Brief introduction - What do you know or have heard about Russia? Students can also share pictures or stories if they have travelled to Russia with their family (optional). - Presentation of new information (including location, capital, flag, geographical features, customs, typical local food, and even learning a few words in the local language) - Kahoot Game (to check the retention of the new information in a fun, engaging way) This will be an interactive lecture in which learners will actively participate by asking/answering questions and expressing their opinion. We will use a Nearpod presentation for visuals (pictures and/or a short video). Additionally, if there are enough learners in the class and if they have access to Kahoot, we will play a fun Kahoot game to test the new information retention. (If your learner is not able to use additional software, please let me know, and we will find a way to work around that) There are additional activates that learners can complete after the class, including creating their own travel passport or scratch off each country as we visit it using a scratch-off map. See you soon, travelers! Note: This class is scheduled to last 50 min, however if there are only 3 participants or less the class might run a little shorter (depending on learners' engagement and chattiness)
