Class Experience

I loved traveling the world and getting to see sites I couldn't imagine while curled up with a book and hot chocolate on my couch. I was fortunate that my job would not only send me out to many different countries, but also gave me the excuse to go back time and time again. Join me as we visit many of the popular locations around the world, all the while exploring the beautiful sights, wildlife, geology, history, mythology, art and fun facts each unique place has to offer. This course will be a combination of lecture and open discussion where the learners will be encouraged to interact as we move through the various sites. Over the course of each lesson students will decorate their own travel map with their favorite aspects of our journeys.

This ongoing course will be very similar to my one-time classes. The goal is to dive deeper into these locations and allow students multiple weeks to explore each subject matter, rather than a single hour. Each class will be setup as a tour moving from one site to the next. This will allow me to easily divide up the subject matter between weeks so even if a student misses a class or joins in the middle of a location, they will be able to jump right in without needing to be caught up.

Locations we will visit include, but will not be limited to the following list. As the class continues I will add more locations to the list as they interest the students. That being said, I do not feel comfortable teaching about locations I have not been to and therefore will not teach classes on them. Also please be aware that I may have to cancel an occasional class if it conflicts with my primary job. When this happens you will be made aware of it far in advance as well as reminded as the date draws closer.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Each location will have its own set of warnings. For example, our first unit is Antarctica and we will be covering topics such as global warming, whaling, pollution, and oil spills. In addition many countries have nudity in their art. I will censor any images that have nudity, but please be aware. Different cultures also have a rich plethora of stories in their mythology and history that includes adult topics such as war, murder, slavery and the like. While I will attempt to be brief and vague when we reach these subjects they will still be mentioned. Also, many students are familiar with these locations and may bring up topics I had attempted to avoid while planning the class. Before we begin a new unit I will send out a message to the parents with a warning on what topics they should be aware of ahead of time.
