Let's Talk Star Wars!: Weekly Social Discussion Club (Ages 8-12)
What's included
1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hours per weekHomework
1 hour per week. Homework for this class is minimal. I may at times recommend watching something from the Star Wars series if we will be talking about something specific the next week, but rarely more than that. We will have occasional show and tells where students can share toys, artwork, etc. which they will need to gather ahead of time.Class Experience
In each week of this ongoing class, we will meet and discuss one of many different Star Wars topics! We'll delve deeper into the stories of your favorite characters, all sorts of theories, the Star Wars Universe, and all sorts of adventures found within it. When you join in, you'll have the chance to make friends with fellow Star Wars fans and maybe even learn new things about the stories you love! NOTE: This version of the class is for 8-12 year olds. There is another version of the class for children aged 13+. Given that this is a discussion club, students will benefit from enrolling in the proper age group. Please enroll your child in the correct class! In this class, we will cover many different elements of the Star Wars Universe. Of course, we'll discuss the movies, but TV series like The Mandalorian, The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Bad Batch will come up as well, along with whatever other entries into the Star Wars series you love - video games, books, comics, legos, you name it! We'll share our favorite characters and moments, delve into theories about what might happen in future Star Wars stories, and sometimes have friendly debates (say, for example, who would win in a fight, Jar Jar or an Ewok?). Schedule of Topics (Subject to Change) September 4 - Welcome Back! September 11 - The Acolyte Discussion September 18 - Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy Discussion September 25 -- Captain Rex October 2 -- Ahsoka Tano October 9 -- Yoda October 16 -- Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader October 23 -- Fives October 30 -- Mace Windu November 6 -- Bo-Katan Kryze November 13 -- Cody November 20 -- Padme Amidala November 27 -- NO CLASS, Thanksgiving Week December 4 -- Creative Sharing Week December 11 -- End of Year Trivia Challenge --- off for the rest of December, class resumes January 8, 2025 --- The purpose of this class is of course to have fun by discussing a shared interest, but also to befriend like-minded students and to learn how to express ideas to others in a respectful, engaging, and constructive way. I am here to guide the discussion, ask questions, provide structure, and ensure everyone feels welcome and respected, but this is a social club and so learners will be encouraged to be very involved in it! The more different thoughts and opinions, theories, and friendly debates that we share, the more fun the class will be! Seeing different points of view will always make for better discussion and will help us appreciate Star Wars even more! So, let's make friends, share our passions, and talk Star Wars!
Learning Goals
Students will increase their knowledge of and gain a deeper appreciation for Star Wars. They will develop discussion skills, learning to express their own opinions well while also learning to listen and engage respectfully with the opinions of others.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a longstanding fan of the Star Wars franchise, having watched the films (Episodes I-IX, Rogue One, Solo) many times, along with the various TV series that have come out over the years (The Clone Wars, Rebels, and The Mandalorian). Discussing this amazing series is one of my favorite things to do!
