Let's Talk German - Conversation & Culture Level 5 (Age 7-11)

This small size club is meant for students that would like to improve their comprehension and communication skills and who completed Level 4 or are at an advanced level. Focus of this club is emphasizing grammatical concepts in conversation through fun games. The club, taught by a native speaker, parent and German language professor, will focus on strengthening the self-confidence of the student to communicate which is vital in becoming eloquent German communicators. This club will cover German geography of the various states and cities, German professions, artists and poetry. We will also strengthen the students’ reading and writing skills. Lastly, the club will dive into German literature according to age level.  

Emphasis in Level 6 is developing a love for the German language, Germany and German literature. We are building story telling and first book discussion skills to prepare students for either Level 6 German Conversation & Leseratten ("bookworm", literally "reading rats":) Book, Science Club or Geography Club. We will use various stories, current cultural events in Germany as well as famous German fairy tales increase fluency and story telling skills.

I will have an arrange of material that can be covered, yet this club will be tailored afresh with each new club and student composition according to the specific students' interests. For conversation clubs I like to keep the schedule somewhat flexible in order to accommodate the students strengths, passions and interests and in order to take any fear of speaking and build on the students' interests. Students will gain confidence and have fun holding short speeches and summaries of events. We will learn from each other. This is a fun club that focuses on conversation skills but we will also dive into reading some interesting books/texts and learn new cultural facts and geography!
