Class Experience

Each week students are welcome to bring a picture or item with their favorite things from our topic of the week.
Learners will learn how to write short sentences about their favorite things. They will work to complete a warmup exercise as an introduction to the topic, practice vocabulary, grammar, and writing exercises. Learners will complete a warmup exercise to introduce them to the topic, and then practice vocabulary, grammar and writing exercises in a sequenced manner. Each learner will work to achieve the targeted objectives. Each lesson will work towards building their writing skills. The last 10-15 minutes will be dedicated to writing about the topic of the week. They will be asked to finish their paragraph before the next class and given an opportunity to share at the beginning of our next class.
This class is designed to be encouraging and to build confidence in each learners writing journeys. I will be available to help and give encouragement between classes. Each student will be encouraged and have the opportunity to share multiple times throughout each session.
This class helps provide tools for their future paragraph writing, while learning, practicing, and reinforcing vocabulary and grammar throughout.

Week One: Favorite Sports: Learners will practice using vocabulary about sports, including action verbs. They will practice using prepositions “at” and “in,” and using articles.

Week Two: Favorite Stores : Learners will practice using vocabulary about stores, and items found in common stores. They will learn to use “there is” and “there are,” and review using the correct form of the verb “to be” and articles.

Week Three: Favorite Places: Learners will learn and practice using vocabulary about places. Learners will also continue practicing “there is” and “there are,” and using different subject pronouns.

Week Four: Favorite Parks: Learners will practice using vocabulary about parks, and items found in parks. They will learn to use “have” and “has,” and review using the correct form of the verb “to be.”

Week Five: Favorite Toys: Learners will learn and practice using vocabulary about toys and using adjectives to describe people. Students will also practice using the verb “to have.”

Week Six: Favorite Character: Learners will learn and practice using vocabulary about characters and using adjectives to describe people. Students will also practice using the verb “to have.”

Week Seven: Favorite Animals: Learners will learn and practice using vocabulary about animals and using adjectives to describe body parts and characteristics. Students will also continue practicing using the verb “to have.”

Week Eight: Favorite Fruits: Learners will practice using vocabulary about fruits, and adjectives describing fruits. They will compare common verbs with the verb “to be,” and review grammar covered in previous lessons.

This would be great for EFL, ESL, or any learner looking to improve their English skills.

This class as a 3 learner minimum.

Parental Guidance
At the beginning of each class, a Nearpod link will be provided. There is no need to preregister as the link will directly take them to a screen that will ask for a name/nickname. This is not required to be used during our class time but is there if students would like the extra level of interaction. A link will also be provided in order to go back and review and also to see the prompt for the paragraph writing each week.
Supply List
Students will need to have a piece of paper and a pencil for their sentence writing and paragraph writing if possible. A Nearpod link will be provided at the beginning of class if you would rather do your work digitally through a split-screen.
At times I will post extra resources for your writing toolkits to be used in your future writing journeys.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a passionate, lifelong learner. I love making learning come to life and see students fall in love with learning! I teach classes from early literacy and phonics to crafting and understanding writing. I love connecting history, math, science, and social studies to English when I can. I also enjoy offering some "fun, bonus" classes that will focus on life and social skills as I believe these are so important to all aspects of life and go a long way to build confidence and success in the classroom! I enjoy bringing education to life through engaging platforms such as Nearpod, Kahoot!, and Quizlet. Each class is designed to connect students to a love of lifelong learning. Whether through games or testing their creative writing skills I want to encourage students to own their educational journeys.
After graduating from The University of Tennessee in 2005 with a degree in English and Education, I have been able to teach, tutor, write for a variety of publications, and teach ESL online. I strive to make each class engaging with the hope that each of my learners comes away with a great love of learning. I love bringing their loves and passions into my classroom and help them connect these things to learning.
With three boys, our family of five stays very busy. We are often found on a field, in a gym, on a hiking trail, or playing games together. I am constantly trying to use our experiences to learn something new!
Thank you for entrusting me to partner with you in your student's lifelong learning journey!
