I have been fascinated with writing, communication and history for as long as I can remember. I have a BA in Communication with a triple minor in English, History and writing from the University of California, Davis. I have over five years of experience teaching English and history at the middle school and high school levels, and have also coached competitive middle school and high school Speech and Debate for nearly 10 years, where I have helped many students qualify for, compete at, and rank highly at the state and national levels. My experience as a language arts and social studies teacher, and more specifically as a coach in the field of forensics, allows me to maintain an unbiased viewpoint as I aid students in understanding both historical and current events.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This class will be dealing with real world events and situations. As such, we will be reading about, looking at, and discussing politically sensitive topics, violent and/or graphic events, and potentially uncomfortable situations.
Current event information will be pulled from a variety of credible resources, such as The Associated Press, Reuters, Bloomberg News, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, BBC, The Economist, TIME Magazine, Politico, NPR, The Atlantic, etc.
