In this semester-long course, students will become comfortable talking about actions in progress by using the present progressive form of verbs in Spanish. #confidence

Class experience

This class is taught in Spanish.
🌟Students review the verb "estar" and how to conjugate this verb in the simple present tense (yo estoy, tú estás, la persona está, nosotros estamos, vosotros estáis, las personas están).

🌟Students learn when to use the present continuous tense in Spanish. They will gain an understanding that this tense is used to talk about things happening in the moment. ex. Ahora, estoy dibujando- Now, I am drawing.

🌟Students learn a variety of -AR, -ER, and -IR action verbs and how to conjugate them to talk about different people and things doing different actions at any given moment. (see the class breakdown in the listing description to view the specific verbs we will talk a look at).

🌟Students learn vocabulary associated with musical instruments, food, sports, and people.

🌟Students learn keywords and phrases associated with the present continuous tense (ahora- now, en este momento- in this moment).

Homework Offered
There will be minimal work to do outside of class, however, it is highly suggested that families continue to practice the new vocabulary and concepts outside of the classroom. Practicing outside of class will give students the opportunity to relate the class material to their own life and environment which will help cement the language in their brains. Some weeks additional activities will be posted for children to do outside of class. These are always optional but highly encouraged!
0 - 1 hours per week outside of class

In this course, students will need minimal supplies. Any worksheets will be posted in the classroom portal before class starts so families have time to print. If you do not have access to a printer at home the teacher can also screen share the worksheet/activity so your child can still easily participate. Information for this class will be presented via Nearpod presentations which can be screen shared with students. In addition, Nearpod presentations allow students to access games and activities independently. The teacher is able to view student progress as they complete it on their own device. Instructions on how to use Nearpod can be viewed in the welcome message. No account is required. Depending on how quickly the students go through the material we may have time to do some additional exercises to practice the vocabulary. Please have your student bring a piece of paper and something to draw with to each class. If time allows we will use these materials to continue practicing the new words. Students should come prepared to speak Spanish, interact with their classmates, and have fun! If there are any additional supplies they will be listed in the classroom section before the class begins.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
This class welcomes students of all gender identities and we want to equip students with the knowledge of how to talk about people of different gender identities. Spanish is a gendered language and adjective endings sometimes change depending on the gender of the person being described. This class includes the adjective endings and personal pronouns for those that identify as female, male and non-binary.

3rd party sources used in this class include Nearpod and Canva.
Nearpod allows students to draw on the presentation and demonstrate their knowledge in a nonverbal manner in addition to speaking activities and exercises. No account is necessary and using Nearpod is optional as the teacher also has the ability to screen share these activities. If your child would like to complete the Nearpod activities independently they can access it using the link posted in the classroom portal before each lesson. Students will be able to draw and complete activities on a separate device like a tablet or phone. Students can submit their work to the teacher so the teacher can gauge their progress and understanding of the class objectives. A PDF with more instructions on how to use this online tool will be sent with the welcome message after enrollment.

Canva is the website used to create the classroom lesson slides. These presentations will be screen shared. Unlike Nearpod, students do not have the ability to access this independently.
