Have you ever seen a manatee? Did you know that manatees are also called sea cows? Have you ever wondered what manatees eat? If so, then this class is for you! In this one-time class, we will explore the fascinating world of manatees. We will discuss the features of manatees, and the behaviors that help these gentle creatures survive. We will learn about their biology and the threats they face. We will even learn ways to help manatees survive! This class will be a combination of a lecture/discussion based course. There will be images and video clips incorporated throughout the class as well as some games and a quick quiz to help assess learning. Students are encouraged to participate in the discussions by asking questions as we move through the course. No prior knowledge is necessary...just a curiosity about these wonderful giants.
Learning Goals
Learners will be able to identify a manatee and discuss what makes these animals so unique.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there!
My name is Kathy and I have been a certified science teacher the last 20 years! My favorite classes to teach are any that have to do with the ocean, and its inhabitants. I have a degree in Marine Biology, am a certified SCUBA diver, have taught aquatic summer camps at a local aquarium, and have volunteered for multiple aquariums and rescue groups.
I also love to craft...in particular, to create things with my Cricut. I also have a degree in Fashion Design and love to sew. I look forward to adding classes that focus on each of these passions.
As a teacher, I often notice students lacking the technology skills needed to be successful in the classroom. I will also offer classes on how to use programs such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and a variety of other applications often used.
I really look forward to meeting you!
